Firm Uses ‘Commissioning’ in Nevada Project

PAHRUMP, Nev. – Kitchell CEM has been selected as owner’s representative for a new detention facility by Nye County, Nev., for a project that will include a planning process known as building commissioning which runs from pre-planning through completion.

The primary goal of commissioning is to identifying potential energy systems and building performance deficiencies early by using a systematic process for making corrections. Using a commissioning agent, the construction team can provide building systems which, prior to occupancy, have significantly fewer defects.

The project is expected to start construction in 2006 and will consist of a combined 250-bed adult detention facility and 50-bed youth detention facility. In addition to building commissioning, Kitchell's services will include assistance in master planning, estimating, architect selection, value engineering, design review, scheduling and construction management.

Kitchell's other current projects include McNeil Island Special Commitment Center in Steilacoom, Wash.; five juvenile detention facilities in California; and the California Department of Corrections New Prison Expansion Program.
