L.A. Sheriff’s Department Deploys Intelligence System

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has launched Coplink, a data analysis program designed by Knowledge Computing Corporation to aid law enforcement agencies in the identification and prevention of criminal activities and terrorist threats.

The analysis program gathers intelligence from previously unrelated databases and ongoing investigations in different jurisdictions in order to analyze the collected information for patterns and relationships that may identify criminal suspects and terrorist activities. The analyzed data is then stored on a secure intranet-based platform.

The analysis program will allow the LASD to integrate and utilize more than 50 million records from four different data systems, including the Historical Automated Justice Information and Jail Booking Systems, the Los Angeles Regional Crime Information Systems, the Crossroads Traffic System and the Regional Allocation of Police Services.
