CompuDyne Acquired by The Gores Group, CEO Resigns

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The leading executive at CompuDyne, a supplier of security and electronics products for the public security market, resigned after the company was acquired by The Gores Group LLC.

Stuart Mackierman, a defense industry executive, assumed the role of Chief executive officer following the resignation of Martin Roenigk, who served as president and CEO of the Annapolis-based company.

The Gores Group is a private equity firm founded in 1987 that focuses on acquiring businesses in mature and growing markets that can benefit from the firm’s experience and flexible capital base. The group’s private equity fund has committed equity capital of $1.3 billion.

Mackierman has worked in the defense and government services industry and most recently served as corporate vice president, business development and president of L-3 Satellite Networks at L-3 Communications. He previously held senior positions at GE Capital Spacenet Services, General Dynamics, SAIC and Unisys.

“CompuDyne is well positioned to expand on its services and products in key markets of infrastructure protection and homeland security,” Mackierman says.

CompuDyne works in four specific market segments: institutional security systems, attack protection, integrated electronics, and public safety and justice. Products include software to manage how courts, prisons and police departments function, and blast-proof windows at embassies. The company generated $147.5 million in revenues in 2006.

“The demand for sophisticated security systems offers exciting growth opportunity on a global basis,” says Ian Weingarten, managing director at The Gores Group. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to expand CompuDyne organically as well as through acquisitions into a larger player in the security products and technology sector.”
