HKS Wins $40 Million Medical Facility Contract

DALLAS — Dallas County Jail System officials awarded a $39 million construction and renovation contract to International architectural firm HKS Inc.

The contract calls for the construction of 151,000 square feet of medical and mental health treatment space and the renovation of 75,000 square feet of space at existing facilities at the 7,800-bed county jail complex in downtown Dallas.

“The goal of the project is to improve and expand delivery of medical and mental health services and reduce the number of inmate transports between Parkland Hospital and the Dallas County Jail,” says Kevin Bailey, HKS vice president. Headquartered in Dallas, HKS operates 23 offices throughout the world.

The project will include the construction of new intake medical examination rooms, the creation of decentralized examination rooms located on individual housing floors and the expansion of centralized medical and mental health infirmary facilities to support chronic and specialty care and emergency services.

Construction of the project, which is in the design phase, is scheduled to begin in September.
