Santa Cruz County, Ariz. — County officials along with architects DLR Group, and contractor Core Construction dedicated a new $59.8 million justice complex in Nogales. The Ed Pastor Courts and Detention Center and the Sheriff’s Office will transition operations and county services under one roof to minimize operating expenses.

The entire complex adds nearly 160,000 square feet of courts, detention and sheriff’s administration space. The new sheriff’s office and jail facility more than triples the space and beds available for the county, as well as potentially opening beds to be leased to other agencies, including the U.S. Marshal’s office.

The county also expects to improve emergency response time to the community at the new location, moving from isolated and aging buildings currently located in the flood plain of the city.
