Overcrowing Leads to Jail Planning in Philippines

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Government officials here are hoping to construct a new detention facility capable of holding up to 1,000 inmates that are awaiting final court decision.

The Quezon City government has allocated P33 Million to buy land for the proposed Quezon City Jail facility, according to reports. The present site is city-own land and is said to be severely overcrowded.

“It is high time to look immediately for a lot which the QC government will procure for the relocation of the QCJ,” Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista told a room of city officials at a recent meeting. “It is a humane reason that this project must push through the soonest possible time. Our city’s inmates are suffering in our present congested jail.”
