John Fayram

John Fayram, warden of the Anamosa State Penitentiary in Anamosa, Iowa, retired after a 36-year career in corrections. An Anamosa native, Fayram began working at the prison in 1979 while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Iowa. Earlier in his career, he served as a correctional officer, activities consultant in the recreation department and as a correctional counselor. Fayram also served in the Iowa Department of Corrections’ central office as a training officer and executive officer, and later in the department’s eastern regional office as an assistant deputy director. He was hired at the Anamosa facility as an associate warden of administration in 2000 before being promoted to deputy warden and warden.
