Wilkes County Dedicates New Jail

WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — Wilkes County correctional officials celebrated the dedication of a new 58,000-square-foot jail on Oct. 22. The new $12.6 million facility will house up to 264 inmates when it begins operations later this month, allowing correctional officials to practice proper inmate segregation and classification for the first time in years.

Escambia County to Relocate Decimated Jail

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Escambia County officials have announced plans to replace the Central Booking and Detention Facility in West Pensacola, which was destroyed by a natural gas explosion in April. Though a federal investigation into the explosion that killed two, paralyzed one and injured 184 is not yet complete; commissioners have elected to begin construction on a new facility outside the area’s flood zone.

Wake County Correctional Facilities Go Green

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Detention Center expansion project and new Justice Center in Raleigh have both achieved LEED Silver status. County commissioners were presented with the honors in early December after their energy conservation efforts earned enough points to qualify for the distinction.
