Committee Urges Washington County Board to Build Jail

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Neb. — The Washington County Board of Supervisors on June 28 accepted a formal recommendation to construct a new 60-bed justice center. The new facility would seek to bring the county into compliance with state jail standards, and could cost more than $15 million.

BEDFORD, Iowa — The new Taylor County Law Enforcement Center in Bedford made its debut earlier this month with an open house tour of the new facility on Sept. 12. More than 200 people toured the center to see its various security and communications improvements. Omaha, Neb.-based Prochaska & Associates served as the architect on the project.

McCOOK, Neb. — Final results in Red Willow County showed a majority of voters were against placing the construction of a new $5.1 million jail facility outside of the county’s existing budget. As of May 16, numbers showed that 1,410 voted against the additional bond and 741 voted in favor.

The actual construction of the one level, 24-bed jail and law enforcement facility will not be effected by the vote. The stand-alone building will be sited next to the courthouse.
