Firefighting Equipment

A wireless remote control released by Akron Brass has been created for electric monitor firefighting applications. The remote control is capable of operating a monitor from up to 500 feet away. It allows for firefighters to maintain a safe distance while remotely controlling a monitor and nozzle with fog and straight stream patterns; left to right movements; and up and down movements.

The remote control application runs on lithium ion batteries and is interchangeable and compatible with existing Akron Brass electric monitors.

Aluminum Composite Panels

Reynobond, Alcoa Architectural Products’ aluminum composite material, is now available in XXL, a 78.75-inch extra-wide width. The panels provide the same strength-to-weight ratios and flatness as Reynobond ACM, in a width designed to facilitate an architect’s ability to create a more streamlined building façade. The wider width also adds to the ability to combine Reynobond with other substrates and materials, such as glass more than five feet wide.

The product can be used in panels up to 243 inches long, without fear of oil canning or dimpling.

Paint Sprayer

Earlex Inc. of Charlotte, N.C., has released an 800-watt, two-stage turbine high volume/low pressure paint spraying system, the Earlex Spray Station 5000.

The Spray Station applies paint evenly, while minimizing overspray and paint waste. It was designed to be lighter and less noisy than typical spray guns. The sprayer can be used to paint siding, sheds, fencing and iron gates.

The high volume/low pressure design allows a turbine motor to feed a high volume of air through the sprayer at a low pressure.

Logging System

A new reconfigurable data logging system that enables facility managers to access a variety of energy and monitoring applications has been released by Onset Computer Corporation. The HOBO FlexSmart logger uses snap-in signal conditioning modules to convert signals from most sensors, eliminating the need for facility operators to carry several different third-party sensors.

FlexSmart input modules can measure true RMS, AC current and voltage, power demand and energy consumption, differential air pressures, pulse and contact closure, and gauge pressure.

High Pressure Sodium Lamp

Philips Lighting Company has introduced a high-pressure sodium, non-cycling Ceramalux lamp, featuring Philips ALTO lamp technology. This addition to the line eliminates the unwanted “cycling” that can cause outdoor lamps to turn off and on at the end of life, now making it easier to determine which lamps should be replaced.

Application areas for the lamp include street and road lighting, warehouses, parking lots, parking garages, and anywhere where “cycling” high-pressure sodium lamps are less than desirable.

Window Retention

Blast Window Retention Anchor Systems from CINTEC America are fashioned out of a steel bar enclosed in a mesh fabric sleeve. The system is inserted into masonry and connected to frames. A cementitious, non-polymer grout is then injected in the sleeve. The grout fuses with the mesh, expands and forms around the steel, filling the space.

The system is designed to provide maximum resistance in case of an explosion. Before the system is installed at a building, the structure is inspected and modeled to assess and determine the best reinforcement pattern.

Organic Odor Elimination

New OdorXit Concentrate uses a contact chemistry process to eliminate odors at the source. Unlike deodorants or masking agents, the concentrate chemically alters the odor-causing substances to neutralize them.

The product is highly concentrated and must be diluted with water before use. One ounce makes 30 ounces of solution that will eliminate organic odors in 60 square feet of wood or concrete flooring, or 20 square feet of carpet (not padding). It is packaged in 4- or 16-ounce bottles; for larger projects, 0.5- and 1-gallon containers are available.
