CDCR Dedicates New Mule Creek State Prison Housing Facilities
IONE, Calif. — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) recently dedicated two new housing facilities at Mule Creek State Prison, located in Ione in Amador County. In addition to increased bed space, the facilities also feature expanded areas for rehabilitative programming as well as medical and mental health care.
Alabama Initiative to Support Construction of Four New Prisons
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — In late February, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley announced the introduction of the Alabama Prison Transformation Initiative Act. The new legislation will provide for the construction of four modern and more efficient prison facilities for both male and female offenders.

Contractor Selected for Oren R. Fox Detention Center in California
EL CENTRO, Calif. — Work on the future medium-security Oren R. Fox Detention Facility in El Centro is inching closer to commencement. The Imperial County Board of Supervisors has selected Balfour Beatty Construction, with U.S. headquarters in Dallas, to design and build the new $28 million facility. The Imperial County Board of Supervisors approved the conditional design-build contract award on Dec. 8.

SALT LAKE CITY — On Nov. 5, Utah’s Prison Development Commission adopted a recommendation that includes hiring a company to manage the construction of a new prison in Salt Lake City. Following two hours of contractor testimonies, Commission members agreed to move forward, according to Deseret News.
U.K. to Open New Prisons, Shutter Outdated Facilities
LONDON — On Nov. 9, Her Majesty’s Prison Service in London announced plans to construct nine new prisons throughout England and Wales in an effort to reform prison programming. Five of the new prisons will be open before the end of the current parliamentary session.
