New York DOC to Use CompuMed for Medical Services

NEW YORK — CompuMed will provide tele-cardiology and remote diagnostic medical services for the New York state prison system after agreeing a multi-year contract with corrections officials.

Under the terms of the agreement, CompuMed will provide remote cardiac screening and diagnostic services to about 60,000 state prison inmates. The company installed 94 electrocardiogram systems and interpretation terminals at 65 correctional facilities throughout the state to support remote interpretative and diagnostic services.

Utilizing technology to deliver remote screening and related services at the point of care can generate significant healthcare cost savings for correctional facilities that lack access to trained medical staff and technicians experienced and qualified in the interpretation of ECG results, officials say.

“We are seeing a confluence of telemedicine and electronic medical records, as well as an increase in providing medical access to remote or isolated sites,” says Maurizio Vecchione, the company’s CEO.

The system can be configured to automatically forward ECG results to a trained cardiologist.

The Los Angeles-based medical informatics and diagnostic imaging company also extended existing contracts to provide remote ECG interpretation systems for Iowa and Nebraska. The company also extended its contract with GEO Group, which is headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla.

Under the terms of the GEO Group extension, CompuMed will continue to provide remote cardiac screening for inmates at 16 facilities managed by the private prison and detention facility operator.

CompuMed will continue to provide remote cardiac screening services on an as-needed basis for more than 8,400 state inmates at nine facilities for the Iowa DOC, which owns 10 CompuMed electrocardiogram systems. The company will also continue to provide ECG services for Nevada state prison inmates at five correctional facilities.
