Sealed Blinds Win Architectural Award
LONGUEUIL, Quebec – Unicel Architectural Inc. was recently awarded the Symposium Distinction Award for its product, Vision Control, at the 2004 National Symposium on Healthcare Design.
Chosen by a panel of judges that consisted of healthcare architects and interior designers, Vision Control blinds operate between two hermetically-sealed glass panes with integral louvers instead of cords or strings. According to the company, the units are dust-free and germ-free and help reduce allergy risks and control infection in areas where hygiene is a main concern.
Because the sealed blinds present less of an inmate security risk than loose blinds, the product is frequently used by correctional institutions in settings such as program areas as well as infirmaries. Facilities including secure treatment centers and juvenile detention centers have used the sealed-blind system in more varied applications, including cell windows.
Vision Control received the Distinction Award in the Architect’s Choice category. The recipients were honored at a reception held at the Symposium in September at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.
