Southern Steel Acquires Folger Adam
SAN ANTONIO – A recent company acquisition brings together two of the pioneer U.S. manufacturers of detention products, forming the new Southern Folger Detention Equipment.
On Aug. 9, Phelps Tointon Inc., the Southern Steel Co. parent company, completed the acquisition of the principal operating assets and business of Folger Adam Security Inc. from Assa Abloy, an international lock manufacturer and supplier.
Folger Adam was established in 1905 in Joliet, Ill., and Southern Steel Co., was founded in San Antonio in 1897. According to Southern Folger, the Folger Adam product line will remain active to satisfy the needs of replacement parts for Folger’s facility base and the new construction market.
Over the next eight months, the Folger Adam product line will be moved from Lemont, Ill., to San Antonio, Texas. The move will be executed in three phases to maintain quality, the company says.
First, the new company will develop written and video-recorded assembly instructions for all Folger Adam products; the second phase calls for a sampling of the Folger Adam product to be built in San Antonio; and the final phase will be the actual move of documentation, equipment and fixtures to San Antonio.
“Our intent is to minimize any disruption to the production of both product brands, Folger Adam and Southern Steel, and to maximize the care of our customer base with strong, quality products, better information and exceptional service” said Don Halloran, president of Southern Folger.
