Airteq Lock Devices Receive UL Certification

CHICAGO — Airteq Systems, a manufacturer of maximum-, medium- and minimum-security locks for correctional facilities, successfully fire-tested two sliding-door lock devices that will receive an Underwriters Laboratories UL 10B three-hour fire label.

The #8250 pneumatic and the #1750 electromechanical sliding devices were both built for 8-foot-high x 5-foot-wide openings, making them the first to have a UL-certified 3-hour fire label for 60-inch wide sliding devices, according to Airteq.

Airteq Systems’ door locking devices feel the burn as they undergo rigorous UL fire tests.
For the test, a solid block moveable hanging furnace wall with two 8-foot x 5-foot openings were built. Both featured steel angle frames and rebar-reinforced concrete sills. The devices were installed during a two-day period and were completed in accordance with ASTM requirements.

Each device was exposed to 1,925 degree Fahrenheit for three hours and a UL engineer watched for any openings around the door where fire could be seen.

The doors were blasted with a 45-psi water stream from a fire hose for 6.5 minutes immediately after the fire test.

The doors passed the test because the upper and lower locks remained engaged; gaps from the wall to the door did not exceed 2.88 inches; there were no through openings in the door or device; and the door and door bottom skirts remained in place.

All Airteq products comply with F1577 & F1643 ASTM standards and most items in the product line are certified UL fire-rated.
