Cindy Hiner
Cindy Hiner, former director of nursing at Montana State Prison (MSP), is transitioning to a position that’s new to the Montana Department of Corrections — medical services bureau chief in the Clinical Services Division. As the bureau chief, Hiner will supervise all medical services managers at secure facilities, as well as two managed care register nurses and two Medicaid staff in central office. She will also oversee the medical services provided in the contracted secure facilities.
As director of nursing services at the state’s men’s prison for 14 years, Hiner supervised all nursing services and was responsible for ensuring the quality and cost effectiveness of those services.
She became the interim health services manager at MSP in 2015, and successfully applied for that position the next year. Hiner is also a certified correctional health professional and performs audits for the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Carroll College in Helena and a master’s degree in nursing leadership and administration from the Western Governors University. She was also elected as a state representative from District 85 in 2004, serving in the Montana House of Representatives for four terms.
