Georgia Department of Corrections Appoints Director of Women’s Services

The Georgia Department of Corrections has promoted Myra Orsborn to Director of Women’s Services, appointing a longtime agency administrator to oversee operations at every GDC facility housing incarcerated women. Her promotion took effect Aug. 1, 2026. 

Orsborn’s career with GDC has spanned almost three decades, progressing through roles in frontline security, counseling, care and treatment, transitional-center administration and facility leadership. She previously served as Deputy Director of Women’s Services, a position she assumed earlier in 2026. 

Orsborn joined GDC in 1997 as a correctional officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison. She moved into a counselor position in 2009 and was promoted to chief counselor in 2015. In 2016, she became deputy warden of care and treatment.   

Her leadership responsibilities expanded in 2017 when GDC named her superintendent of Metro Transitional Center. She was promoted to warden at Whitworth Women’s Facility in 2023 and advanced to deputy director of Women’s Services in 2026 before her latest appointment. The move to director marks her second promotion in 2026. 

“Myra’s extensive correctional experience and her knowledge of the unique needs of incarcerated females have proven to be extremely valuable to the agency,” GDC Commissioner Tyrone Oliver said. 

Orsborn earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western Carolina University. Her departmental preparation includes Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, the Correctional Leadership Institute and the Warden’s Assessment Center.
