Lucibeth N. Mayberry Named President and CEO of CoreCivic
CoreCivic has appointed Lucibeth N. Mayberry President and CEO and named her to the company’s Board of Directors, effective Sept. 25. She succeeds Patrick D. Swindle, who resigned from both roles due to health reasons.
Mayberry most recently served as CoreCivic’s Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, a position she had held since May 2025. She previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer from October 2022 to May 2025 and Executive Vice President of Real Estate from May 2015 to October 2022.
Mayberry has held a range of leadership positions since joining CoreCivic in May 2003, including Vice President and Deputy Chief Development Officer; Vice President of Research, Contracts and Proposals; and Managing Director of State Partnership Relations.
“I am fully committed to continuing the current capital allocation strategy, maintaining our focus on operational excellence,” Mayberry said, according to a release from CoreCivic.
Board Chair Mark Emkes said Mayberry’s appointment reflects her leadership experience, knowledge of the company and role in executing strategic initiatives.
“She has a deep understanding of our business, a proven ability to execute strategic initiatives, and the full confidence of the Board to lead CoreCivic forward while continuing the strategy that has strengthened the Company and created value for shareholders,” Emkes said.
Swindle, who became President and CEO Jan. 1, will continue to provide guidance to CoreCivic as a special adviser during the transition.
“Lucibeth is one of the most capable and principled leaders I know, and I have no doubt that under her stewardship, this company will continue to grow and make a difference in the lives of the individuals entrusted to our care,” Swindle said.
Mayberry earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, a juris doctor from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Laws degree in taxation from the University of Florida.
