Omnibus Bill Will Fund Reopening of Thomson Prison

THOMSON, Ill. — President Obama signed off on a major tax and spending package on Dec. 18, paving the way for the reopening of Thomson Correctional Center (TCC) in Thomson. The sprawling, 146-acre TCC complex has never held more than 200 inmates, and has been shuttered and/or underutilized since its 2001 completion.

Legislation Could Expand Jail Mental Health Services

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) introduced legislation earlier this month that could improve mental health and other health care services at local jails across the country. The legislation aims to expand the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) program to also include county and municipal correctional facilities, serving a larger swath of the 64 percent of jail inmates currently suffering from mental health conditions.

THOMSON, Ill. — Washington lawmakers further secured the reopening of Thomson Correction Center (TCC) in Thomson, Ill. by dedicating $106 million to Bureau of Prisons construction. The bill must now be voted on in both chambers and signed into law by President Obama.
