Merced Announces Solar Powered Facilities

EL NIDO, Calif. — Merced County has recently announced the commission of its new 1.4-megawatt photovoltaic array to power the county’s correctional facilities in El Nido, Calif.

The solar power system consists of two triangular shaped arrays with a total of 6,272-solar panels ground-mounted on 4.5-acres next to the John Latorraca Correctional Facility and the Iris Garrett Juvenile Justice Correctional Complex.

Juvenile Funds Awarded

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency has awarded approximately $3 million in state and federal funds to assist Pennsylvania’s youth, as well as prevent harmful behaviors and support community programs and services.

The funds will support a variety of programs and services designed to prevent youth from entering the juvenile justice system, educate youth about the dangers of underage drinking and support collaborative efforts on state and national levels.

Juvenile Justice Report

WASHINGTON — The Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice released its annual report calling for various reforms to the juvenile justice system in the United States.

 
The FACJJ Annual Report 2010 is distributed to members of congress and the executive branch providing recommendations as to the federal government’s role in the juvenile justice system, which falls under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, which oversees the committee.
