ASTM Includes Expanded Metal Association

CHICAGO – The Expanded Metal Manufacturers Association (EMMA) is going to be part of the upcoming drafting of the ASTM standards for expanded metal fencing designations.

These standard specifications cover expanded metal fencing used as a security barrier for new or a retrofit of existing steel fencing for detention institutions and other facilities where incursions are significant.

Expanded metal is manufactured from sheet metal that is slit and stretched into a non-raveling unit of uniform sized diamond shaped openings, and is often used as a security screen in correctional facilities. It also is used in applications such as enclosures, racks, shelving, fencing, security and building facades.

EMMA provides a forum for the exchange of information on the expanded metal industry and is a division of The National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers (NAAMM).

The current EMMA members are Alabama Metal Industries Corp. of Birmingham, Ala.; Exmet Industries Inc. of British Columbia, Canada; Expanded Solutions LLC of Oklahoma City; Fisher & Ludlow-Burlington, Ontario, Canada; New Metals Inc. of Laredo, Texas; Niles Expanded Metals & Plastics of Niles, Ohio; and Spantek Expanded Metal of Hopkins, Minn.
