New Alabama Legislation Could Reduce Overcrowding

In an effort to curb inmate overcrowding, state Legislators in Alabama
approved a bill that will allow judges to impose shorter sentences for drug
and property offenders.
 
It will take about four years for the prison population to stabilize,
