PODCAST: Warden of the Year
Warden Ralph Kemp has had a storied career in the corrections industry that began in Georgia in 1966. After retiring from the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1998, Kemp joined Corrections Corporation of America in 2000, and is presently the warden at the company’s Wheeler Correctional Facility in Alamo, Ga. Perhaps as a testament to his career, both the Georgia Department of Corrections and CCA nominated Kemp for the North American Association of Wardens & Superintendents Warden of the Year award. Kemp received the honor at the NAAWS summer conference in Chicago. Correctional News editor Rob Hoey spoke with Kemp via telephone and learned the intricacies of how Kemp has been successful in his 40+ year career, the career path that he nearly took instead, and what he did for the years between retirement and joining CCA.
