Calif. Juvenile Correctional Facility to Close
IONE, Calif. — The 116-year-old Preston Youth Correctional Facility in Ione will be closed next June as a cost-cutting measure that will save the state $30 million a year in operating costs, according to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports.
The majority of its 224 inmates will be relocated to Stockton. The closure is also necessary as more youth offenders are being housed in county facilities.
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Bill Sessa said the
445 employees affected by the closure will be offered positions at other facilities.
