West Virginia Work Release Center to Open in 2011
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — West Virginia Division of Corrections officials say they expect to have the new Parkersburg Correctional Center in Parkersburg open by late 2011.
The $6.5 million 150-bed, all-male non-secure work release facility will be located in the site of a former Holiday Inn. In addition to the work release center, part of the building will house the Parkersburg Parole offices.
The center is expected to provide 40 to 50 jobs ranging from administrative positions to correctional officers’ jobs. The non-violent offenders assigned to the center will be required to obtain jobs in the community. DOC officials say there are tax and other incentives available for potential employers who hire inmates.
