A superintendent of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, David Pitkins has been promoted to regional deputy secretary. With 23 years of experience, Pitkins will oversee all western Pennsylvania state prisons. In 1996, he was on a transition team that helped open the lockup on the grounds of the former Somerset State Hospital. Pitkins has served as deputy superintendent at SCI-Cresson, SCI-Somerset and at Laurel Highlands. In 2009, he was named Laurel Highlands’ superintendent. Additionally, he will supervise facilities at Albion, Forest, Fayette, Greene, Greensburg, Mercer and Pittsburgh.
