Early Warning Smoke Detection System
Honeywell’s Silent Knight developed the Fire Alarm Aspiration Sensing Technology (FAAST) for early warning smoke detection. Ideal for high-security facilities, the smoke detection system uses two optical sensing technologies and advanced algorithms to deliver rapid and precise protection, even in challenging and highly sensitive environments, according to the company. Drawing in air samples into its sensor and pipe network, the unit features a blue LED to detect smoke in different stages of a fire, while its infrared laser differentiates airborne particles from smoke. A series of algorithms are then used to warn of smoke up to 60 minutes prior to combustion, according to the company. Available in five programmable alarm levels for more flexibility, the smoke detector automatically regulates system settings to stay within pre-specified parameters. It also provides email notifications regarding current conditions and authorized users can monitor the system’s overall performance online.
