Correctional Health Program
Wexford Health’s jail-based Restoration to Competency (RTC) program is a cost-effective alternative to expensive state-provided services. The program treats mentally ill defendants who cannot understand court proceedings or participate in their own defense — and are therefore deemed unable to stand trial. The scalable solution can be implemented for a single county, or expanded to include multiple jurisdictions through interagency agreements. The RTC services benefit multiple stakeholders, generating revenue for the facility hosting the program; providing defendants with the ability to have timely trials; and saving taxpayer dollars by minimizing the amount of time a county must house and feed the detainee. Wexford Health’s RTC program has received awards from multiple national criminal justice associations, including the National Association of Counties (2011), the American Correctional Association (2013) and the National Sheriff’s Association (2014).
