Santa Barbara County Jail Project Awaits State Approval

SANTA MARIA, Calif. — Now that the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors awarded construction contracts in early July for the Northern Branch jail in Santa Maria, final state approval is required before continuing with plans to build the facility. That includes review by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), State Public Works Board and Pooled Money Investment Board.

Santa Barbara Gets $38 Million for Reentry Facility

SANTA MARIA, Calif. — Santa Barbara County was recently awarded a $38 million grant to build an inmate rehabilitation, recovery and re-entry facility adjacent to the county’s planned North County Jail on the outskirts of Santa Maria. In accepting the grant for the STAR Complex facility, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors will have to agree to commit millions of dollars in county funding to complete and operate the 227-bed facility.
