Julie Jones

Julie Jones was appointed Secretary of the Florida Department of Corrections on Jan. 5, 2015, and was officially confirmed by the Senate Committee earlier this month. Before joining the Florida Department of Corrections, Jones served as executive director at the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles where she was responsible for the management of a $425 million dollar budget and more than 4,600 employees.

Elvin Valenzuela

Elvin Valenzuela recently retired from his position as warden of the medium-security California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Valenzuela was named the post in December 2012. He began his career in 1987 as a correctional officer at Avenal State Prison, later transferring to the California State Prison in Corcoran. In 1998, he was named the facility’s correctional lieutenant and, in 2006, became a correctional captain.

Karey Witty

Karey Witty was recently named CEO of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Corizon Health, a major correctional facility health care provider. Witty replaced current CEO Dr. Woodrow Myers Jr., effective Nov. 2. Witty was most recently the CFO of Nashville, Tenn.-based post-acute care manager naviHealth. He has been on Corizon’s board of directors since 2011 when the company was created through the merger of PHS Correctional Healthcare and Correctional Medical Services, where he served as CFO.

Timothy E. Hughes

Corizon Health has announced that they have hired Timothy E. Hughes, MD, FACOG, FACS as Corizon’s new regional medical director for its Southeast Jails. Hughes will provide medical leadership to the facilities in the Southeastern region. Previously, Hughes served as the departmental surgeon for the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. Dr. Hughes received his Bachelor of Science and his EMT-Paramedic training from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Tom Marquardt

Tom Marquardt, SBID, IIDA, has recently been hired in HDR’s Chicago office as a design principal. A veteran in the industry with 29 years of experience, Marquardt comes to HDR after leading his own successful interdisciplinary design and branded environments studio in Chicago, which he founded in 1988. Prior to that, he worked for two firms designing corporate and commercial interior projects ranging from office test fit plans to high-end showrooms.

Patrick Firman

Patrick Firman was recently appointed sheriff of Denver County in Colorado. In his new role, Firman will lead the Denver County Sheriff’s Department, which includes two jails, nearly 900 employees and a budget of approximately $131 million. Prior to his appointment, Firman was employed as a private contractor and consultant, working with law enforcement departments on correctional facility operations and management.

Kavinder Singh

Kavinder Singh was recently named executive vice president of KMD Architects in San Francisco. Prior to his new appointment, Singh served in numerous positions at Turner Construction Company, including as vice president and general manager in the firm’s San Francisco office, and as vice president and country manager in Hyderabad, India. Prior to that, Singh was the manager of business development for Turner, focusing on the Oakland East Bay Area of California.
