Gary Simpson

Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch on Jan. 28 announced the hiring of Gary Simpson to serve as the new CEO of Federal Prison Industries (FPI), a voluntary industrial work program that operates as a wholly owned government corporation. Simpson comes to FPI with more than 28 years of experience in manufacturing operations at Procter and Gamble. He is an expert in the areas of cost effective product launches, operational turnarounds and sourcing optimization.

Joe Allbaugh

Former FEMA director Joe Allbaugh is the new interim head of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Allbaugh, who also owns the public safety and emergency response consulting firm Allbaugh International Group, was selected on the basis of his expertise in both the private and public sectors. He currently sits on the board of the National Rifle Association and also served as the interim city manager for the city of Blackwell, Okla., in 2014.

Robert Patton

Robert Patton, director of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, announced his resignation, effective Jan. 31. Patton began his corrections career in Arizona in July 1985 as a correctional officer at the state prison in Fort Grant, where he later became correctional sergeant. In September 2000, he was promoted to associate deputy warden and in 2002 was promoted to deputy warden in Safford.

Brad Pease

W. Scott Loercher

International engineering and architectural firm Buchart Horn (BH) recently promoted W. Scott Loercher, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, to associate vice president of the firm’s Architectural Division. Loercher will be responsible for developing and carrying out a strategy for growing and demonstrating the expertise of the division. Loercher, who joined BH in 1995, has most recently served the company in the role of principal and director of design.

Jeffrey Beard

Jeffrey Beard, Ph.D., secretary of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation will retire at the end 2015. Beard has served as secretary of the department since 2012. He began his criminal justice career in 1972 with the Department of Corrections in Pennsylvania (DCP) as a corrections counselor, serving in various positions until he was appointed secretary by Governor Tom Ridge in 2001.

John King

After nearly 34 years working in the Minnesota Department of Corrections, John King, warden of the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MFC) in Stillwater, has announced his retirement. King began his correctional career in 1982 as a correctional officer at MFC – Oak Park Heights. Later, he worked at MFC – Lino Lakes and then as associate warden of administration for MFC – Rush City. Due to experience in prison finance, King was appointed CFO for the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
