Arizona DOC to Purchase Kingman Facility

GOLDEN VALLEY, Ariz. — Arizona Department of Corrections (DOC) officials received approval from a legislative committee in June to purchase the Arizona State Prison-Kingman, located in Golden Valley, from GEO Group of Boca Raton, Fla., for upwards of $137 million. Adelanto Likely to Add Two New Prisons

ADELANTO, Calif. — Though Californians just passed Proposition 47, which is in part intended to reduce prison crowding, the community of Adelanto, Calif., is embracing more correctional construction. Facing potential bankruptcy, city council members on Nov. 20 tentatively approved construction of two new private prisons. The deal will reportedly introduce new revenue to the city through the creation of 1,000 new temporary and permanent employment opportunities and will add six new deputies to the city’s police force.

GEO Group Announces Management of Three New Facilities

BOCA RATON, Fla. — On Feb. 1 the GEO Group assumed management of three Florida correctional facilities under a contract with the state’s Department of Management Services. The private correctional administrator will now operate the 985-bed Moore Haven Correctional Facility, the 985-bed Bay Correctional Facility in Panama City, and the 1,884-bed Graceville Correctional Facility.

Geo Community Reentry Services to Operate California Day Reporting Centers

BOULDER, Colo. — The California Department of Corrections and the Division of Adult Parole Operations has hired Geo Community Reentry Services, a division of Boca Raton, Fla.-based The Geo Group, to operate four intensive parolee reentry centers.

The centers, located in San Diego, Santa Ana, Pomona and French Camp, will serve more than 1,000 inmates annually.

Fla. Prison Privatization Questioned

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. A small group of politically influential companies could be awarded a contract worth millions of dollars in a legislative effort to privatize Floridasprisonhealthcare services, according to reports.
 
The new budget plan to which House and Senate negotiators recently agreed allows one vendor to bid on boththe healthcare andprison privatization services of 18 South Florida counties.

GEO Group, CCA Net Out-of-State Contracts for California Inmates

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation awarded GEO Group Inc. the contract for nearly 2,600 additional beds in out-of-state facilities, according to the CDCR. Also getting play from California is Corrections Corp. of America, with an offer in the works from CDCR to take on additional beds that are not currently under contract.
