Minnesota Correctional Facility Marks 100th Year

BAYPORT, Minn. — The Minnesota Correctional Facility – Stillwater, recently marked its 100th year in operation. The facility was completed in 1914, and is still the state’s largest close-security institution for adult male offenders.

One of 10 adult facilities throughout the state, the 20-acre Stillwater complex consists of more than 60 different buildings. It offers both minimum and close security, and was considered state-of-the-art when it first opened.

Minnesota Hires New Inmate Health Care Provider

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Corrections hired a new firm to oversee inmate health care in Minnesota prisons, ending a 15-year relationship with Brentwood, Tenn.-based Corizon Health Inc., which was a target of lawsuits and staff complaints. Since 2000, there have been at least nine inmate deaths and several injuries related to poor or delayed care within the state prison system, according to the Star Tribune.
