California Judges Rule on Inmate Health Care Suit
SAN FRANCISCO — The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled against an inmate who sued the state for damages for denial of health care. Though the 11-judge court was divided, the majority defended their position on the grounds that the state has failed to provide enough funding for both medical staff and supplies.

HANOVER, Md. — Conmed Healthcare Management, Inc., a provider of correctional facility healthcare services to county detention centers, announced in May it signed an agreement with Howard County, Md., for a one-year term with options for nine one-year extensions.
Effective July 1, 2012, this new contract is expected to generate more than $16 million for Conmed from the initial annual rate of $1.6 million plus annual price increases based on the Consumer Price Index.
