Denver Breaks Ground On $300 Million Justice Complex
DENVER — This city took its first step toward construction of its $300 million Justice Center Complex in August when it broke ground on a $16 million combination post office, daycare center and parking garage in the Golden Triangle neighborhood.
The 76,000-square-foot structure eventually will be joined by a courthouse and detention facility, all of which are expected to be completed by 2009.
Construction on the $114 million detention facility, which will cover 430,000 square feet and contain 1,500 beds, will begin in January 2007. The $99 million courthouse will contain 35 courtrooms and house 323 employees.
Funding for the complex comes from a $378 bond issue approved by city voters in 2005.
