Infrared Illumination Technology
The new 1-millimeter infrared chip prototype from Osram achieves wall-plug efficiency of up to 72 percent at 100 milliamps using thin-film technology to conserve more radiated and electrical input power, according to the company. With a wavelength of 850 nanometers, the chip has been designed specifically for infrared illumination applications, ideal for surveillance tasks and CCTV camera usage. The system features a high quantum efficiency of about 65 percent up to 1 amp, according to the company. There are also potential safety applications in the automotive sector, such as pre-crash sensors and illumination sources for night vision systems.
