MINOT, N.D. — Following the approval of a $24 million bond proposal, Ward County, N.D., commissioners in Minot are now meeting with financial professionals to begin the borrowing process for a new 100-bed jail expansion. The project will more than double the size of the existing facility and received considerable community support.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Lucas County commissioners approved a contract with a consultant to resume preliminary work on the project almost four months after putting construction of the Toledo jail on hold.
SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously last month to take steps toward the construction of a new jail in San Jose. They agreed to move forward with design work required in order to compete with other counties for part of the $500 million in jail funding from the state, which should be granted later this year.
RAYMONDVILLE, TEXAS — An overwhelming 2,000 plus inmates rioted recently at a privatized correctional facility located in Southern Texas along the Mexico border.
The North Carolina Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Mike Slagle as the new administrator at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine. Slagle is a 20-year corrections veteran who most recently served as assistant superintendent for programs at Mountain View. He began his state service in 1994 as a counselor at a juvenile evaluation center.
