Ariz. County Awards Correctional RFQ

YUMA, Ariz. — The Yuma County Department of Developmental Services awarded the design RFQ for the Yuma County East Satellite facility to Yuma-based architect Steven R. Fischer.

The original solicitation was for the design, expansion and remodel of the Yuma County Wellton Justice/Sheriff building, which currently covers about 4,000 square feet. The size and the number of beds of the project, which will be funded by federal and county funds, have not been determined.

Mass. Correctional Project To Bid Soon

CHICOPEE, Boston — The Division of Capital Asset Management will seek bids to expand the MA Regional Women’s Correctional Center in Chicopee.

The tentative bid date on a new housing unit on the center’s grounds is scheduled for mid- to-late July.

San Diego-based Kleinfelder SEA is serving as the architect and Daniel O’Connell & Sons, which has two offices in Mass. and one in Conn., is serving as the construction manager on the $9 million, CM managed project.

Wis. Correctional Farm Project Halted

MADISON, Wis. — Sen. Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) and Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald (R-Horicon) announced plans for a Correctional Farm Consolidation near Fox Lake have been halted.

The Department of Corrections said recently it does not intend to proceed with the project to construct a consolidated dairy farm and manure digester on lands within the Fox Lake Correctional Institute.

PHOENIX — Bids to build new privately-run minimum-to-medium security prisons are due Thursday, Feb. 24, to the Arizona Department of Corrections Procurement Services.

The new bid proposals can be for all 5,000 beds or submitted in increments of 500.

CHARLESTON, W. Va. — With the second fastest growing prison population in the country, West Virginia is building new correctional space and considering alternative sentencing measures to reduce its prison population.

The West Virginia Division of Corrections will need 8,500 new prison beds by the end of 2012 and 10,300 by 2017.
