Legislator Wants Condoms for Inmates in Federal Prisons

WASHINGTON — As the AIDS rate climbs in prisons throughout the United States, Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, is working on a bill that would permit the distribution and possession of condoms among federal inmates.

By encouraging the use of condoms in correctional facilities, Lee hopes to help educate prisoners on sexually transmitted diseases and lower the incidences of STDs.
