$42 Million NOLA Jail Replacement Bid Date Postponed

NEW ORLEANS The bid date for construction of the new $42 million Orleans Parish Sheriffs Office Inmate Processing Center and replacement of jail buildings in New Orleans has been postponed to May 11.

The original facility, which was severely damaged by flooding during Hurricane Katrina, consisted of three connected buildings: the four-story Templeman 3, the single-story Templeman 4, and a single-story gym. Templeman 4 served as an intake processing center and provided storage for inmate belongings and records. It also housed temporary holding cells for inmates.

Flood waters destroyed the buildings structural, electrical, and mechanical components, as well as operating systems, security systems, and contents.

The 1,450-bed replacement facility will be a four-story building with approximately double the square footage of the previous facility. It will be located mostly within the borders of the demolished facilities at 2800 Perdido Street. It will also feature a more efficient shape than the original structures.

Grace & Herbert Architects of Baton Rouge, L.A. is serving as the architect on the project.

Contractors have the option of submitting bids through an electronic interactive system. A single, lump-sum bid must be submitted for all portions of the contract work. Bid security in the amount of five percent of the total bid price, including base bid plus all alternates, must accompany each bid in accordance with the "Instructions to Bidders."
