County Plans for $1 Million Community Corrections Center

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — County officials here informally committed about $1 million for design and construction of new of a new community corrections facility.

The facility would keep those convicted of minor offenses out of the county’s main jail while providing life skills, employment, and drug and alcohol abuse treatment programming.

The facility would cost the Division of Criminal Justice about $35.39 a day. Inmates at the county jail cost about $73.46 a day.

Operational cost will come partly from inmates, who are expected to pay a daily fee of $17.

The new building would hold about 60 beds and would have the ability to expand. The center is expected to cost about $116 a square foot to build and it is estimated to be 7,000 to 10,000 square feet.
