Richard Seiter
Richard Seiter, Ph.D. retired as an executive vice president and chief corrections officer of Corrections Corp. of America.
Seiter was the recipient of the American Correctional Association’s 2011 E.R. Cass Correctional Achievement Award. A thirty year veteran in the industry, Seiter began work with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1976, serving as the inaugural chief of the National Academy of Corrections in the early 1980s and went on the serve as warden at Federal Prison Camp, Allenwood, Pa. and at Federal Correctional Institution, Greenville, Ill.
Later, as director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Seiter oversaw the addition of 10,000 beds to 18 facilities and was responsible for a statewide staff of more than 8,000. Between his two tenancies as a federal warden, Seiter was the chief operating officer of Federal Prison Industries. From 1999-2005, he was an associate professor at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo., in the sociology and criminal justice departments.
He received the Louie Wainwright Award, for directors’ outstanding achievements in the field, from the Association of State Correctional Administrators in 2009 and has been a member of the ACA since 1975.
