FIBER REINFORCEMENT
MCI Fibers are the latest addition to the line of concrete reinforcement products offered by Cortec Corporation.
Made from polypropylene and hydrophobic materials, the fibers are designed to shred when mixed into concrete, reducing shrinkage cracking.
The product’s corrosion inhibitors are attracted to embedded metal surfaces, forming a molecular layer that protects rebar, galvanized steel and other metals from corrosion.
A study conducted on the fibers shows that they provide a 66 percent reduction of cracking compared to concrete made without the fibers, according to the manufacturer.
Each fiber measures 0.015 inches in diameter and 0.75 inches long. The product is available in bulk form or grenade form, which comes in a water-soluble bag that dissolves during concrete mixing.
