New Facility Separates Courts, Sheriff’s Department
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — The 100-year-old Luzerne County courthouse will primarily be used for court functions now that the sheriff’s office has moved out of the bottom floor of the facility and relocated to a new location.
County workers renovated a 1972 building originally designed for storage so that it could house the sheriff’s office, the recorder of deeds and the information technology center for the county.
The old office, located on the first floor of the courthouse, had walls so thin that the public could overhear police radio communications. The hardware for the computer network was located in the basement and was susceptible to flooding.
