Committee Looks to Find Solution for Overcrowding

CHARLOTTE, Tenn. — A committee was formed to look for ways to alleviate overcrowding at the Dickens County jail.

The committee is expected to meet twice a week to find a solution that least affects county taxpayers. A proposed $14.7 million renovation plan for the jail has been delayed while new committee members familiarize themselves with the proposal.

Plans suggest building a new facility adjacent to the existing jail and increasing occupancy from 211 to 385 inmates.
