Family Could Receive $45 Million From Geo

RAYMONDVILLE, Texas — The family of an inmate who was beaten to death at Willacy County State Jail could receive $45 million from Geo Group, which is contracted by the state to run the facility.

Gregario De La Rosa was in the prison yard when two inmates repeatedly struck him with padlocks stuffed into socks. De La Rosa was killed only four days before this scheduled release, and his family claims that his death could have been prevented. Prisoners had been found with padlocks before, and it should have been assumed that they would use them again, according to the lawsuit.
