IONE, Calif. — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) recently dedicated two new housing facilities at Mule Creek State Prison, located in Ione in Amador County. In addition to increased bed space, the facilities also feature expanded areas for rehabilitative programming as well as medical and mental health care.

PHUKET, Thailand — After a long waiting period, Phuket Prison Chief Pichit Wanajit confirmed that Phuket Provincial Prison is set to break ground this month. The new prison will be able to hold more inmates and relieve some of the pressure that is on the current facility.
CONNELL, Wash. — Coyote Ridge Correctional Center’s new Resource Activity Center, which was originally designed by Integrus Architecture to be a chapel, recently opened after receiving a Certificate of Occupancy in April 2015. Work to expand the correctional center originally began in July 2005 and included the addition of 2,048 new medium-security beds.
YUBA, Calif. — While two major law enforcement renovation projects are underway, including a new juvenile hall and sheriff’s department, Yuba County is seeking state funds to expand the county jail. This will include new classrooms, and an upgrade to the medical and mental health treatment space.
In recent years, the line between correctional facilities and mental health facilities has blurred. Jails and prisons are now some of the largest de facto mental health providers in the country, and many county jails in dense metro areas are seeing more inmates in need of mental health services.
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Benton County Officials in Bentonville have been researching the potential expansion of their county correctional facility. That expansion is now expected to commence within the next two months, according to Benton officials.
The issue of overcrowding has hindered the court judge’s ability to place convictions on several different worthy defendants, and with the new expansion, judges will not have to face this obstacle for a long time.
BUCKEYE, Ariz. — After allowing media outlets to tour the state’s new $50 million prison in early November, the Arizona Department of Corrections has officially opened the new section of the Lewis Prison Complex in Buckeye.
ADELANTO, Calif. — Though Californians just passed Proposition 47, which is in part intended to reduce prison crowding, the community of Adelanto, Calif., is embracing more correctional construction. Facing potential bankruptcy, city council members on Nov. 20 tentatively approved construction of two new private prisons. The deal will reportedly introduce new revenue to the city through the creation of 1,000 new temporary and permanent employment opportunities and will add six new deputies to the city’s police force.
