Michael Myers
Michael Myers was recently selected as the new leader of the Douglas County Department of Corrections (DOC) in Omaha, Neb. Since October 2008, Myers has overseen programs aimed at combating recidivism and jail crowding as community corrections manager for the Douglas County DOC. “This is an amazing and humbling opportunity,” said Myers. “The Douglas County Department of Corrections has an incredibly complex mission. I am looking forward to working with a talented team to meet our challenges head on.” Some of the challenges his team faces include a near-capacity jail population and a rising number of inmates with multiple serious mental illnesses. Myers’ previous leadership efforts include overseeing re-entry services for people getting out of jail and the department’s 24/7 sobriety program of monitoring people released after drug and alcohol offenses. Myers has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling, both from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
