Brazos County Studies Juvenile Facility Expansion

BRYAN, Texas — Brazos County is considering an expansion that would more than double the size of its existing juvenile justice facility in Bryan. In response to a steadily growing local population and an anticipated need for more juvenile justice services, the county selected Treanor Architects’ Dallas office to complete a feasibility study that will examine different expansion options.

DeSoto Supervisors Green Light Jail Addition

HERNANDO, Miss. — DeSoto County supervisors recently approved the second phase of construction on the DeSoto County jail, which will include space for 268 new inmates. When completed, the addition will greatly increase the county’s inmate housing capacity, bringing the jail up to 572 beds.

Union Rallies for New Pennsylvania Prison

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — More than 100 correctional officers, union leaders, county officials and supporters rallied at the Fayette County Courthouse on April 11 to push for the construction of a new prison. Members of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), which represents some 70 correctional officers employed at the current Fayette County Prison, organized the gathering.

New Hampshire to Build $38 Million Women’s Prison

CONCORD, N.H. — Site work will begin this summer on the New Hampshire Correctional Facility for Women. The new prison will replace an aging Goffstown facility that the state has leased for more than two decades. The decision was announced in late February, 20 years after the state was first ordered to provide housing equity to female inmates.
