Coffee County Jail is Once Again State Certified

MANCHESTER, Tenn. — After losing its state certification due to overcrowding and understaffing in 2012, the Coffee County Jail in Manchester was recently re-certified by the Tennessee Corrections Institute (TCI), which establishes minimum standards for adult local jails, lock-ups, workhouses and detention facilities in the state. The new $20 million jail officially opened in May 2015 when it received its first inmates, and offers more than double the capacity of its predecessor.

Comal County Selects Architect for Jail Expansion, Renovation

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Comal County, Texas, will soon begin construction on a new $76 million county jail. The 155,000-square-foot facility will house approximately 600 inmates and include a 16-bed infirmary, a booking area with temporary holding cells, support areas, a detention administration area and visitation spaces for attorneys and families. The project is also slated to include an approximately 68,000-square-foot renovation of the existing jail into office and operational space for the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.

Hoquiam Jail Project Now Welcomes Larger Inmate Capacity

HOQUIAM, Wash. — A recently completed expansion of the Hoquiam Jail in Hoquiam will soon pay for itself, as reported by The Daily World. Police Chief Jeff Myers told the local newspaper that the newly expanded jail, which reopened April 1, now offers a greater inmate capacity. The additional bed space allows the facility to expand its contract with the Washington Department of Corrections to house felony probation violators at a cost of $85 per day.

McLean County Selects Architect for Jail Expansion

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — After reviewing bids from six architectural firms, McLean County, Ill., officials have selected architecture and engineering firm The Farnsworth Group of Normal, Ill. The firm will also be working with global architecture firm HOK to design the community’s $45 million jail expansion project in Bloomington. The project will focus on improving general population capacity, increasing housing for female inmates and on expanding and improving mental health services.

New San Mateo Jail to See First Inmates March 19

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — San Mateo County’s new $165 million jail facility, the Maple Street Correctional Facility, will soon be open for business. County officials, including Sheriff Greg Munks, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony March 2 and the first inmates will be transferred on March 19.
